Amanda Doku

Amanda has had a knack for math since early childhood. Aside from maintaining academic excellence in high school, she was a team leader in a youth choir that was awarded a bronze medal for their overall performance, against some 300 choirs from 40 countries from around the world. She also made a big impact on her school as the vice-president of The STEM Council, that oversees all STEM-related clubs within her school.

When asked about what the future hold for her, she explains: “I see myself building a Biomedical Engineering start-up company, where I can take my ideas and innovations and develop them to be used on a global scale. This would ideally focus on the use of AI in medicine to improve diagnosis, treatment, and to find links between countless research papers.”

Tasneem is most passionate about chemistry and robotics. She maintained academic excellence in school, all the while creating a community robotics team called WinMINDS and mentoring a team that made it to the first LEGO League robotics competition.

When asked what she sees in her future, she explained: “I see myself having launched a biotechnology company that develops innovative bio-based devices, like EV bio-batteries as promising solutions to the recyclability issue with millions of EV to retire in the next decade.”

Tasneem and Amanda are among 100 students across Canada to receive this scholarship, one of the most coveted in the country.

Schulich Leader Scholarships, managed by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, were made possible with the funding provided by Canadian business leader and philanthropist Seymour Schulich. This historic $100+ million scholarship initiative was implemented to secure the future economic competitiveness of Canada and Israel and is designed to ensure that future Canadian and Israeli leaders are among the next pioneers in global scientific research and innovation.
