TRAFFIC AND PARKING

PARKING COMMITTEE

1. The Parking Committee recommends parking policies to the Administrative Committee.

REGULATIONS

2. The University of Ottawa Parking and Traffic Division web site contains detailed directives of this policy.

FINANCING

3. Since parking is an ancillary service, it must be financially self-supporting.

PARKING PERMITS

4. Only permits issued by Protection Service are valid on University property. Priorities for parking are given in accordance with the Regulations.

VIOLATIONS

5. When a vehicle is parked illegally on University property a parking violation ticket may be issued. If the vehicle interferes with traffic or if it has been issued a minimum of five parking violations in a consecutive six month period, it may be towed away on the authority of the Director, Protection Service, at the expense and risk of its owner, in which case the Ottawa Police Force is advised.

TEMPORARY CHANGES

6. For special occasions, the University of Ottawa reserves the right to alter temporarily its parking regulations and privileges.

VISITORS

7. Visitors may use the parking garage located at 100 Thomas More at their own expense. In exterior parking lots, visitors' parking spaces are equipped with parking meters. Parking tickets may be issued for violations on these meters.

PUBLIC FUNCTIONS

8. The University of Ottawa has no reserved parking for visitors attending public functions on campus. However if space is available,the Protection Service may issue temporary permits valid only for the duration of the function. Those organizing such functions should contact the Protection Service for reservation of parking spaces.

ACCESS TO PARKING LOTS

9. Members of the University community must be given priority regarding the use of University parking lots. When possible during the summer period, the Parking Office may sell permits to outsiders.

LIMITATIONS

10. The University of Ottawa reserves the right to change or cancel parking permits should the physical redevelopment of the University make it necessary. If a permit is cancelled by the University, a prorata refund will be made. The University reserves the right to cancel the privileges of permit holders who violate parking regulations.

BICYCLES

11. All bicycles not parked at a bike rack, especially those inside buildings other than residences, those causing problems to pedestrians,traffic and/or damage to University of Ottawa property or the environment are considered illegally parked.

RESPONSIBILITIES

12. It is the responsibility of the personnel of the Traffic and Parking Division to control illegally parked bicycles. Occasionally,personnel from the Security Division may aid and/or assume these functions.

WARNINGS

13. All bicycles illegally parked will initially receive a warning (see Annex 1).

REMOVAL

14. Traffic and Parking personnel may remove and store bicycles which are found to be in contravention of parking regulations. All removal of bicycles must be immediately followed by a notification of such to the Security Division.

RETRIEVAL OF BICYCLE

15. All removed bicycles may be retrieved from the Parking and Traffic Office during regular hours by the owner only, after satisfactory description of bicycle and appropriate payment of administrative and storage fees of $5.

LIABILITY

16. The University of Ottawa and its employees will assume no responsibilities for any damages to or theft of bicycles, vehicles or contents on campus, including damages to either bicycle or lock as the results of its removal.

EXCEPTION

17. No exception may be made to this policy without the written consent of the Administrative Committee.
