Employee and Family Assistance Program

During these challenging times, all employee groups will have access to short-term counselling with our Employee and Family Assistance Program.

The program is in place for you and your eligible spouse and any dependent children at no cost to you.

LifeWorks, the University’s EFAP service provider, offers a wide range of services delivered by highly qualified and experienced professionals. Services are offered in the following areas:

  • Short-term professional counselling
  • Family support services
  • Legal support services
  • Financial support services
  • Nutritional services
  • Health coaching
  • LIFT suite of fitness offerings

A person who:

  • is married to you through an ecclesiastical or civil ceremony
  • although not legally married to you, continuously cohabits with you in a conjugal relationship recognized as such in the community in which you reside and has done so for at least one year at the time a claim is incurred, and whom you have declared as your spouse to the University.

The term conjugal relationship includes a conjugal relationship between partners of the same sex.

Dependent child

A person who is:

  1. unmarried,
  2. your or your spouse’s natural child, step-child, legally adopted child or foster child and
  3. under 21 years of age or, if dependent upon you for support and in regular full-time attendance at an accredited institute of learning, is under 27 years of age.

A newborn is insured from birth once the birth has been declared to Human Resources.

A mentally or physically disabled child who was insured up to the maximum age remains insured beyond such age provided the child, upon reaching the maximum age and thereafter, is incapable of self-sustaining employment and relies fully upon you for support and maintenance. Medical information may be required to maintain or continue coverage for any such dependent. It is your responsibility to provide any initial and follow-up medical information that may be required in order to continue this coverage.
