House of Commons Page Program

We’re proud that 35 of the 40 pages this year have made uOttawa their choice for postsecondary studies.

Are you interested in Canadian politics? Would you enjoy working alongside Members of Parliament? Want to earn $16,935 (plus a $1,200 bonus on successful completion of the contract) for this incredible experience?

Each year, 40 students are selected from across Canada to participate in the House of Commons Page Program. In the Chamber and around Parliament Hill, Pages support parliamentary democracy by providing a range of services to Members of Parliament. This unique work experience broadens their knowledge of the rich traditions of the Canadian parliamentary system.

Pages must be bilingual, have experience providing client service, experience managing multiple priorities, and experience communicating and collaborating with peers. The selected applicants will begin their post-secondary studies in September 2022 at one of the four universities in the National Capital Region, La Cité or Algonquin College.

Did you know?

Contrary to popular belief, students don’t need to study political science or dream of becoming the next prime minister to be a page. For Andrea, a third-year health sciences student from Winnipeg, her interest in politics actually grew as a result of her page experience.

Every year the University of Ottawa is home to most of the 40 House of Commons pages. Here’s why:

  • a high-quality education provided by the only university in the region to be ranked in the top 200 universities in the world
  • a unique French immersion stream and an added bonus of up to $4,000 for studying in French
  • the opportunity to become a bilingual professional by studying in both French and English at the world’s largest bilingual (English-French) university
  • a short walking distance to Parliament Hill, Canada’s political epicentre
