Canada Learning Initiative in China (CLIC)

Do an exchange in China with funding.

You must be a full-time Canadian uOttawa student who meets our exchange program and summer program criteria.  

Please note that all LINC courses are offered in English only.

Important: The University of Ottawa is following COVID-19 developments closely, and we care about our students' well-being. These CLIC programs will therefore not be offered for the Spring-Summer 2022 term.

  • China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing: Summer Program in Law  

Students from universities who are CLIC members are eligible for the following benefits: 

  • uOttawa Student Mobility Scholarships 

  • Admission application fee exemption for Chinese universities 

  • Summer program tuition fee exemption 

  • Monthly stipend of 3,000 CNY (≈ 600 CAD) for living expenses 

  • Free housing (for housing administered by universities) 

  • Free health insurance 

Applying for a fall and/or winter CLIC exchange: 

  1. Register for access to information sessions offered by uOInternational. 

  1. Explore our exchange programs offered during the academic year

  1. Apply to the uOInternational exchange program and submit your supporting documents by the deadline. 

  1. Apply to the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) by April 26, 2021 (for fall 2021) or October 10, 2021 (for winter 2022). 

  1. Once uOInternational approves your application, you can confirm this with CLIC. If you’re not selected for a CLIC-funded program, you must cancel your CLIC application. 

  1. Attend an information session on summer programs offered by uOInternational. 

  2. Explore our summer exchange programs

  3. Follow this timetable: 

    • February 17 Deadline to submit your full summer program application to uOInternational.   

    • February 24 Internal selection for CLIC summer programs. 

    • March 1: uOInternational informs students selected for a CLIC program. 

    • March 6: Deadline to apply online to the Chinese Scholarship Council

  • Statement of studies: Your highest level of certificate, diploma or degree (high school, college or prior postsecondary education) 

  • University of Ottawa transcript (uOInternational will obtain this document for students selected) 

  • Study plan: an overview of the courses you’re taking, the cultural events you will attend and the places you will visit, as well as what results you hope to achieve through your studies in China 

  • Letter of recommendation issued by uOInternational (emailed automatically for selected students) 

  • Police record check  

  • Foreigner Physical Examination Form (emailed automatically to selected students) 

Note: We recommend you prepare these documents in advance, to be able to submit them within the required timeline. The March 6 deadline is firm.
