Getting your first card

Order your first student card online: it’s quick and easy!

Eligibility

•    Be a new uOttawa student
•    Have a uOttawa student number and uOttawa email address
•    Be enrolled in at least one course
•    Have access to a digital camera to take a photo

If you meet all these criteria, please proceed to Step 1. Otherwise, request your card in person.

Order your card online

  • Your uOttawa card is an important piece of photo ID. The bottom edge of the photo should be at shoulder height.
  • Look straight into the camera. Photos of your face in profile, with sunglasses, or wearing a hat, are not allowed. Your face must be clearly visible.
  • The picture should be clear, in colour, and good quality.
  • Your face should be in the centre of the photo, both horizontally and vertically.
  • You must be the only person in the photo.
  • You must not be wearing a graduation cap, gown, or costume.
  • The background should be plain white or light gray.
  • Nothing should be touching your face, including your hands.
  • The maximum file size is 2 MB.
  • Your photo must be in JPG format and labelled as your student number (e.g. 0000100731.jpg).
  • You may wear tinted prescription glasses so long as your eyes are clearly visible.

Photos that do not meet these criteria will not be accepted, which will cause delays in obtaining your student card.

Filling out the online form

Picking up your card

As soon as your card is ready, you will receive an email (sent to your uOttawa account) to pick it up. You will need to present valid pieces of photo ID. The card will be ready at the reception desk of InfoService (TBT129). You do not need to enter the virtual line. 

For security reasons, we do not send uOttawa cards in the mail.

In person

Go to InfoService (TBT 129) or the uOttawa Card Service offices (UCU 104) to have your photo taken and to get your card.

Sunglasses cannot be worn. You may wear tinted prescription glasses so long as your eyes are clearly visible.

You cannot wear a hat.

Women who wear a veil that partially hides their face may make an appointment with InfoService so they can be photographed without their veil by a female employee before InfoService opens at 9 a.m.

To receive a uOttawa card, you must present a valid passport or at least two of the following documents, one of which has your photo:

  • Driver’s licence (with photo)
  • Indian Status Card (with photo)
  • Ontario BYID card issued by the LCBO (with photo)
  • Federal government employee ID (with photo)
  • Provincial government employee ID (with photo)
  • Municipal government employee ID (with photo)
  • Ontario photo ID (with photo)
  • Canadian permanent resident card
  • Certificate of Canadian citizenship
  • Birth certificate
  • Social Insurance Number (SIN) card
  • Affidavit

U-Pass cards, credit cards, or other forms of ID are not acceptable.

Discover uOttawa card

Are you visiting the University of Ottawa or are you an employee?

Use the Discover uOttawa card to make all your purchases on campus. It only costs $3.

You can purchase them at the uOttawa Card Service or at one of the dispensers at:

  • Morisset Hall (first floor)
  • Fauteux Hall (fourth floor, in library)
  • Tabaret Hall (Infoservice, TBT 129)
  • 90 University (lobby)
  • Roger Guindon Hall (in library)

How to purchase a Discover uOttawa card from the card dispenser and reloading station (cost of $3):

  1. Touch the screen and select "purchase visitor card"
  2. Pay with Visa, MasterCard or Interac Flash
  3. Retrieve the card

These funds are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Use this card wherever the uOttawa card is accepted.

You can add funds onto your Discover card uOttawa online or at any card dispenser and reloading station or in person at the uOttawa Card Service.

Online

Funds can be added at any time, day or night, by logging on as a visitor. On this secure website, you can load your card by using Visa, MasterCard or Interac on line (through BMO (Bank of Montreal), TD Canada Trust (Toronto Dominion), RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) or ScotiaBank). The minimum amount you can load online is $25.

Funds can be added at any card dispenser and reloading station on campus.

In person

Bring your Discover uOttawa card to the uOttawa Card Service to load it with funds by using Interac, Visa, MasterCard, a certified cheque or a money order. Cheques should be made out to “uOttawa Card Service”.
