The Faculty of Arts has learned with great sorrow the consequences of the restructuring process at Laurentian University. This outcome is shattering for all members of the post-secondary education community, particularly those who provide French language services in a minority context. The erosion of a francophone hub in a minority setting is a loss for Canadian society in general.

The Faculty of Arts wishes to express its solidarity with the staff and faculty community who are undoubtedly devastated by the news. Our thoughts are especially with the students whose academic progression has been completely disrupted. The Faculty also wishes to express its solidarity with the entire Sudbury and Mid-Northern Ontario communities, which are also affected by this situation.

The Faculty of Arts recognizes the importance of programs, including  fine arts, humanities and social sciences, to the vitality of minority language communities and to Canada as a whole.  Sudbury's francophone cultural and educational institutions have been influential in Middle Northern Ontario and across Canada.

We stand in solidarity with the members of the Laurentian University community during this difficult time.
