Congratulations to communications doctoral candidate William Durbau, who was awarded the Joseph-Armand Bombardier SSHRC Graduate Scholarship for his research Turning Watchers into Players: An intermediary analysis of play and gamification as drivers of artistic mediation conjunctions.

Project summary: Why do we seek to transform artistic works into games? This research focuses on the unexplored aspects of gamification intermedial approaches to mediation conjunctions. By examining how play, games, and transformation into a game, influence mediation processes in artistic practices, in particular in current theater, the researcher analyses the fundamental instability of media and proposes reflections on the current expansion of the world of games.
