Catherine Mavriplis holds a Honour's Bachelor’s of Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, as well as a Master’s and Ph.D. in Aeronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After a postdoctoral stay at Princeton University, she became professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the George Washington University. She has also worked at the US National Science Foundation, NASA Langley and University of Oklahoma before returning to Canada. Professor Mavriplis has been President of the Computational Fluid Dynamics Society of Canada and a Councillor of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. She has worked for the advancement of women in science and engineering on funded programs since 1996, and currently holds the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for Ontario since 2011. She is the recipient of the Elsie MacGill Northern Lights Award for Education (2016) and the 2019 Partners in Research Technology & Engineering Ambassador Award.
