Cynthia Morawski received her Doctorate from Columbia University Teachers College in teaching and curriculum with a specialization in reading and language arts. She also has Masters degrees in special education, curriculum and teaching, and counselling. As an undergraduate she focused on psychology and art education. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in language and literacy, bibliotherapy, learning differences, the arts and children's and young adult literature in the Faculty of Education. She has also taught in the Women's Studies Institute. In addition to her university teaching, she has extensive teaching experience at the elementary and secondary levels in both regular and special needs classrooms in Canada as well as in the United States. She holds certification to teach at the secondary, intermediate, junior and primary levels, and has additional qualifications in special education and a specialist credential in guidance. Her research interests include teaching narratives, adolescent literacies, bibliotherapy, women's lives and arts-based/-informed learning, including poetics of memory work. She publishes in a wide range of publications such as Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, International Journal of Education and the Arts, English Quarterly, Educational Insights, Journal of Individual Psychology, and Atlantis: A Women's Studies Journal. In addition to written forms of dissemination, she has presented at both national and international learned conferences such as American Educational Research Association Annual Conference, Annual Conference of the International Reading Association, Conference of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology, Provoking Curriculum Conference, International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry and Canadian Society for Studies in Education.
