The Éducation en milieux linguistiques minoritaires et inclusion concentration explores questions related to diversity and equity in minority settings, specifically, in francophone settings. This master’s program is flexible in the ways it is delivered and features synchronous, asynchronous and face-to-face meetings.

The numerous courses available in this concentration study social, cultural, historical and linguistic issues in education, such as power, diversity, gender and marginalization. You'll acquire knowledge that will position you to become a leader in tackling challenges in education in minority settings in the 21st century like the empowerment of minority groups, equity and social justice. This knowledge and the practical ways you learn to apply it will boost your expertise in teaching and learning the French language in a school setting.

This concentration is offered within the following degree options:

  • Master of Education (MEd), coursework option (12 months full time or 24 to 48 months part time)
  • Master of Education (MEd), coursework option online (12 months full time or 24 to 48 months part time)

Professional degree

  • Master of Education (MEd), major research paper option (12 months full time or 24 to 48 months part time)

This concentration can lead to doctoral studies and a career in research.

This program includes 10 courses (30 units), of which four (12 units) are compulsory, four (12 units) are within the concentration and two electives (6 units) among graduate education courses. Here are the Program Requirements and Course Descriptions.

Notes

1.    EDU5590 must be completed in the first or second term in which it is offered following admission. 

2.   EDU 5599 must be completed in the last term of your program. 

Important

  • Compulsory courses must be taken in the language of your program of study.
  • If you're a full-time student, you should take three or four courses per term (as indicated in the sequence above). However, if you're a part-time student, you can't take more than two courses per term.
  • Classes are three hours per week, plus six to nine hours of study on your own.
