Master of Education (MEd), Counselling Psychology (with research paper)

This program includes 10 courses (30 units) within the concentration,  two practica in Counselling Psychology (6 units) and a major research paper. Here are the Program Requirements and Course Descriptions.

Course sequence and program requirements

This course sequence shows you which courses you should take for your program. 

Notes

1. EDU 6290 must be completed in your first or second term following admission in which it's offered.
2. EDU 5271 and EDU 5471 must be completed before you enrol in the practicum.
3. You can't enrol in more than one practicum in any one term.

Important

• Compulsory courses must be taken in the language of your program of study.
• Courses are three hours long and require six to nine hours of study per week on your own time.
• Most courses are offered in the evening, but some courses are offered in the afternoon. You must ensure that you can attend the course in question to complete your program requirements.
• If you are a full-time student, you should take three or four courses per term (as indicated in the sequence above). However, as a part-time student, you can’t take more than two courses each term.

Master of Arts in Education (MA), Counselling Psychology

This program includes 10 courses (30 units), of which at least eight courses (24 units) within the concentration, two practica in Counselling Psychology (6 units), a thesis proposal and the master’s thesis.

Course sequence and program requirements

This course sequence shows you which courses you should take for your program. 

Notes

1. EDU 5271 and EDU 5471 must be completed before you enrol in the practicum.
2. EDU 6290 should be taken at the beginning of your program.
3. You can't enrol in more than one practicum in any one term.
4. You must complete an annual research progress report jointly with your thesis supervisor. The report lets you evaluate your progress during the previous year and to define your objectives for the coming year. If you receive two non-satisfactory progress reports, you must withdraw from your program.
5. Submit your written research proposal for approval by a thesis committee. You must present a seminar following approval of the proposal. You then receive a “CTN” (for “Continued”) grade each term. You must enrol for the proposal until you meet the proposal requirements, at which point a grade of S (satisfactory) or NS (non satisfactory). If you receive an NS, you can submit a second proposal to your thesis committee. The NS remains on your transcript, even if your second thesis proposal is accepted. If you receive a grade of NS for your second proposal, you must withdraw from your program. 
6. Once your thesis proposal has been accepted, you must request ethical approval of your research by the Office of Research Ethics and Integrity for any research involving human subjects. If not, you will be subject to disciplinary measures. Submit an Approval Of The Master Of Arts In Education (MA) Thesis Proposal form  (PDF, 250KB) as proof your proposal has been accepted.
7. When submitting a thesis for evaluation, you must be enrolled for the term in question.
8. Submit the final version of your thesis online using uO Research within a month of your defence.

• You must take compulsory courses in the language of your program of study.
• You and your supervisor should plan to meet regularly (once or twice a month) whether or not you have any finished work to show.

Master of Education (MEd) - Counselling Psychology (Extended)

This option was suspended in May 2021 until further notice. The following course sequence shows you which courses you should take for your program.

Course sequence and program requirements

We strongly recommend that cohorts prior to May 2021 follow this sequence.

This program includes 13 courses (39 units), with at least nine courses (27 units) within the concentration, one graduate elective course in education (EDU) (3 units), two practica in counselling Psychology (6 units) and EDU 5101 Perspectives in Education (3 units).

Notes

1. EDU 5101 must be completed during your first term following admission in which it's offered.
2. EDU 5271 and EDU 5471 must be completed prior to registration to practicum.
3. EDU 5190 must be completed in your first or second term following admission in which it's offered.
4. You can't enroll in more than one practicum in any one term.
5. EDU 5199 must be completed in the last term of your program.
