The Teaching and Learning concentration helps you develop your knowledge of teaching and learning and understand how the two are linked. 

Study how to adapt teaching strategies to the different needs of learners

This concentration offers you the opportunity to explore teaching and learning by engaging with current research and scholarship as it applies to teaching and learning processes in a variety of contexts such as classrooms, informal settings, professional organizations and the workplace, from early childhood to adulthood.

"I selected the concentration of Studies in Teaching and Learning as I have a linguistic background with a Bachelor’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and was very interested in branching out my interests and expertise to education in a general sense. Course sequences

MEd, Concentration in Studies in Teaching and Learning

This program includes a total of 10 courses (30 units), of which at least 5 courses (15 units) within the field and 3 elective courses in any Education course at the graduate level (9 units). Here are the Program Requirements and Course Descriptions.

Sequence for the MEd, in person option

Term 1
Fall
  • EDU 51901Introduction to Research in Education (3 units)
  • 2 courses in the concentration (6 units)
  • 1 optional course in Education (EDU) at the graduate level (3 units)
Term 2
Winter
  • 3 courses in the concentration (9 units)
  • 1 optional course in Education (EDU) at the graduate level (3 units)
Term 3
Spring/Summer
  • EDU 5199² Synthesis Seminar (3 units)
  • 1 optional course in Education (EDU) at the graduate level (3 units)

Notes

  1. EDU 5190 must be completed in the first term of your program.
  2. EDU 5199 must be completed in the last term of your program.

Important

  • Compulsory courses must be taken in the language of your program of study.
  • If you are full-time, you should take 3 to 4 courses per term (as indicated in the sequence above) however, as a part-time student you may not take more than 2 courses each term.
  • Courses are 3 hours long and require about 6 to 9 hours of study per week of your own time.
  • Most courses are offered in the evening so you are responsible for ensuring that you can attend the course in question, to complete the requirements of your program.
  • We offer courses in different formats to accommodate the unique needs of distance learning students.
