Resource Centre

Welcome to the Faculty of Education Resource Centre. The Faculty of Education Resource Centre offers resources and services aiming to support the students of the Faculty of Education in their studies.

The collections hosted by the Resource Centre include more than 45,000 titles related to the world of education. Multimedia and computer resources as well as various support services are accessible by students, employees and professors of the Faculty of Education. As part as the Resource Centre's users, Alumni and the whole University of Ottawa community may also use some of our services and resources.

Mandate

The Resource Centre of the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa ensures that its activities and initiatives contribute significantly toward the objectives defined in the mission statement by promoting the integration of technology and fostering digital literacy throughout its professional programs

Specifically, the Resource Centre will provide students of the Faculty of Education with learning opportunities that encourage students to become familiar with new information technologies. The Resource Centre will provide faculty members of the Faculty of Education with learning opportunities to support the effective integration of information technologies in courses offered at all levels in the faculty and assistance in the development of instructional materials.

The primary aim of the Faculty of Education Resource Centre is to support the learning, teaching and research activities of the Faculty. To this end, the Resource Centre offers a range of teaching and learning resources and services, including technological, that meet the diverse needs of the community of students, professors and staff within the Faculty of Education.

The collections

The collections of the Resource Centre support the Teacher Education, "Formation à l'enseignement" and Professional development programs of the Faculty of Education.

The general collection consists of learning resources, teacher's guides, textbooks, professional magazines and periodicals and several others resources used for teaching from kindergarten to grade 12. Among others, you will find most of Ontario Ministry of Education's publications.

A great collection of children's literature composed of picture books, fiction and non-fiction novels, comic books and documentaries fulfils the needs of the future teachers.

  • Find a document in the University of Ottawa library catalogue. All the Centre's resources are indexed in the catalogue. The catalogue also allows access to online resources. (Please be aware of the Notice of Collection of Personal Information)
  • Consult the Teaching Resource Guides where you will find more details on the Centre's collections.
  • Fill out a form to suggest a purchase for our collection.
  • Note that the Morisset Library hosts the documents and periodicals often used in graduates studies and research in education.

Services

The Resource Centre offers a wide range of services. Please note that certain services are reserved for Faculty of Education students, employees and professors.

  • Loans, returns and other library-related transactions
  • Reservation and loan of multimedia equipment
  • Reserve collection for Education courses (Resource Centre's documents and professors' private collections)
  • Sale of supplies (CD, DVD, laminating sheets, etc.)
  • Basic technological support (Resource Centre's equipment, printing, photocopying, wifi configuration, SMART Boards, etc.)
  • Help with wireless configuration
  • Technological support for the Resource Centre's equipment (SMART Boards, projectors, laptops, camcorders, etc.)
  • Integrating technology in education
  • Reference (learning resources, databases, periodicals, etc.)
  • Information literacy skills
  • Use of learning resources

The Resource Centre and the University of Ottawa Library offers to distance students (online, Toronto and Windsor Campus) loan and consultation services. Please check our Distance Services section for more information.

Some supplies are available for purchase at the circulation desk. Only cash is accepted.

The personal information collected and maintained through Omni, the library services platform, will be used by the University of Ottawa for the purposes of and those consistent with providing library services, including but not limited to tracking library materials and contacting library users who have outstanding materials or fines.

Omni is supported by Ex Libris Alma® and Ex Libris Primo®.  The Ex Libris Privacy Policy provides additional information with respect to the collection, use, disclosure of information and the security measures for safeguarding the information it maintains.
