The foods we eat are essential to maintaining the health of individuals and populations. Students will have a thorough understanding of the science behind the development, production, marketing and consumption of a wide variety of foods, as well as their metabolism, effects on health, and importance in disease prevention and management.

Honours Bachelor of Science in Food Sciences
This program for prospective food scientists focuses on the chemistry, microbiology and physical properties of food.
Honours Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics
This accredited program for the next generation of dietitians — health professionals specializing in food and nutrition — integrates practicum placements and focuses on knowledge and skills specific to dietetics.
Compare our two programs
Students may choose to specialize in food and nutrition sciences in nutrition and dietetics. Since both programs offer a common curriculum during the first year of study, it is also possible to change programs after this first year.
Both programs offer multiple opportunities to actively participate in experiential learning activities integrated into the curriculum. A number of optional courses on cutting-edge topics in food science and nutrition are offered. Our programs are taught by dynamic professors actively involved in food and nutrition research.
