Details

The Client Consultation Competition is organized by the Canadian Client Consultation Committee.  The competition simulates the initial client interview.  Students, in teams of two, conduct an interview with a person playing the role of the client and then explain how they would proceed further in the hypothetical situation.  This year's topic is ‘Environmental Law’.

Students will try out individually.  Try-outs will consist of one 15-minute interview of a client who will approach you to discuss an ‘Environmental Law’ matter.  You will not be judged on your substantive knowledge of the law.  You will be judged on your ability to interview a client.  No research is required for the try-outs.  It is not expected that you will complete the interview during the 15-minute time slot, and you are to simply go at a natural pace.

The two selected individuals will become the client consultation team, and we will prepare in order that we are ready to compete in the Canadian competition to be held in Edmonton, AB on March 11-12.  The top Canadian team will be invited to attend the International Competition in Maastricht, Netherlands in April.

Please email [email protected] by November 5, 2022 if you would like to try-out for the client consultation team and provide your dates/times of availability from Wednesday, November 9 to Tuesday, November 15 (note that for Nov 9, 10, 14, and 15, you need only provide your availability after 5pm).  Please indicate if you have taken CML 3313 or a substantially similar course, and if you have not taken CML 3313 please provide details of the substantially similar course/experience.  On November 6 or shortly thereafter, I will email the try-out schedule to all students who have indicated their interest.
