International Economic Law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa: The uOttawa Faculty of Law is one of the strongest international law faculties in the world. It is home to a group of globally recognized scholars in international economic law, has the largest number of international law scholars in Canada and regularly hosts leading scholars from around the world. The Law School provides the opportunity to teach small seminars on a range of international trade and investment law issues to JD students, Master and PhD students, including a trade and investment law clinic, and offers a specialized LLM in International Trade and Investment Law attracting a select and diverse cohort of graduate students every year. The Law School is located at the heart of Canada’s international economic law community and has strong relationships with Global Affairs Canada, international trade institutions, like the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, and the private bar. Title of the Position: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Appointment at the higher rank of Associate Professor will only be considered should the successful candidate possess the appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements.
Terms: This tenure-track position is in either the French Common Law Program, taught in French; the English Common Law Program, taught in English; or both. Candidates should note at the top of their covering letter whether they are applying to the English program, the French program or both.

Salary and Benefits Package: Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience where Assistant Professor salaries typically range (as of May 1, 2022) between $88,735 and $122,724 and for an Associate Professor between $98,019 and $170,215 per year.

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities including research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work; c) academic service activities, d) supervision of graduate students.
- Education: An undergraduate degree in common law and have completed or be on the verge of completing either a master’s or doctoral degree in law or a doctoral degree in a related discipline. In the case of a candidate currently enrolled in a doctoral program, the candidate’s supervisor will be expected to verify that there is a reasonable likelihood that the dissertation will be submitted prior to appointment.
- Work experience:
- A demonstrated expertise in trade and investment law and a commitment to academic and teaching excellence.
- A demonstrated superior academic record, an established background in research and publication, including external research funding or the potential for such funding, and the capacity for excellence in teaching and contribution to the academic life and governance of the Faculty
- Strong communication skills in either English or French. Passive knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure. English-French bilingualism is an asset.
