When enrolling in a program at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, it is the responsibility of each student to:

• Become familiar with the specific degree requirements of their program and ensure that their course selection meets these requirements;
• Ensure that they have completed any prerequisites for courses selected;
• Ensure that there are no holds in your Student Centre dashboard preventing you from enrolling prior to the enrolment period;
• Ensure that the courses selected do not result in class schedule or exam schedule conflicts;
• Meet all deadlines indicated in the important dates published by the Common Law Section and the University of Ottawa;
• Become familiar with the Common Law Section’s Academic Regulations and other regulations of the University of Ottawa. It is understood that, by the act of enrolling, students agree to abide by these regulations.
• Become familiar with your enrolment tools. All Student Center applications in your uoZone Applications tab will have a pdf tutorial under their name. To open the tutorial for one application, click tutorial (PDF) under the application title. To help you with enrolment, UOttawa has produced a series of videos, including an animated video and several tutorials on enrolment functions such as understanding your academic requirements and reserved spaces. 

Students are welcome to consult a member of the Common Law Student Centre for assistance with any of these issues.

DUE TO TIMETABLING CONSTRAINTS, STUDENTS CANNOT MAKE CHANGES TO THEIR BLOCK SELECTION ONLINE AFTER JUNE 30, 2023.

Enrolment for first-year courses is available online; however, these are general provisions. Specific conditions may apply for students who are enrolled in certain programs (e.g. combined programs). Please be sure to carefully read the information relevant to your program. First-year students have a set curriculum and require block enrolment – meaning that they must enrol in a block of pre-determined courses.

If, for very exceptional reasons, you will not have access to the Internet during the enrolment period, you may submit a Modification/Cancellation of Enrolment form (PDF, 228 KB)  by email at [email protected]. Please indicate, in order of preference, at least 3 block selections.

What is a small group and block registration?

All first-year students take one of their substantive law courses in a small group format.  The small group course includes legal writing and legal research training, including training in computer assisted research. The small group format ensures that all students have the opportunity to get to know their colleagues well, to participate in meaningful classroom discussion and to enjoy continuous feedback from the professor.

• Small group: class size of approximately 40 students
• Large group: class size of approximately 80 students

You must enrol in one of the following groups:

• Small group CML1607 A, Délits Civils
• Small group CML1607 B, Délits Civils 
• Small group CML1701 A, Délits et responsabilité extracontractuelle  (PDC students only)

Enrolment to CML1611 - Compétences et habiletés juridiques

The Common Law Student Centre will be responsible for selecting and enrolling you into a class section for the mandatory CML1611 course.

STEP 1 - SELECT YOUR TIMETABLE

• Consult the degree requirements and course sequence for your program.
• Consult the Block Enrolment Timetables to select your preferred block. 

STEP 2 - ENROL FOR YOUR COURSE ONLINE

• Log into uoZone and, under Applications, click Student Centre. Under Academics, click on Enrol.  You will only be registering for the small group course associated to your block. Once registered in the small group course, the Common Law Student Centre will proceed with the enrolment of the rest of your block during the first half of July.
• You are guaranteed enrolment in the rest of the block once registered to the small group course.

 STEP 3 - VIEW YOUR TIMETABLE

• Your personalized timetable will be available via the Personalized Timetable function once your block enrolment has been fully completed by the Common Law Student Centre during the first half of July. You will be able to access it by logging into your uoZone account. 

 STEP 4 - PAY YOUR TUITION FEES

• You can access your online statement of account on your Student Centre, which is located under Applications in your uoZone account. Your full-time student status and full-time fees will only appear in your account during the first half of July.

Enrolment Modification Periods

June 20 to June 30

First-year students will have an opportunity to modify their block enrolment in uoZone from June 20 to June 30.

If your preferred block is full, it is recommended that you enrol in your second best option. 

Programme de droit canadien

• Enrolment to small group CML 1701 is mandatory for PDC students.

French JD / MA 

• Students registered in the French JD/MA program must enrol to a French small group course. Students in the French program will be enroling to CML 3531 - Droit international public in 2nd year of their program.

French JD / Baccalauréat spécialisé approfondi en science politique

• Students registered in this program must enrol to a French small group course.

All questions related to the enrolment of Political Science (POL) courses must be addressed to the Faculty of Social Science at: [email protected].

French JD / Baccalauréat en sciences commerciales

• Students registered in this program must enrol to a French small group course.
• You must also enrol to ADM 3701 (Prerequisite: ADM 2702, ADM 2704) or ADM 3718 (Prerequisite: ADM 2720).
