Project description:	The Rousseaux lab is actively recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate to study mechanisms underlying Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). TDP-43 is a protein at the center of ALS and FTD pathology. Despite this, little is known about the early mechanisms that lead to TDP-43 pathology and how it functions within the cell, limiting therapeutic intervention. We are looking for a motivated applicant to explore a unexplored aspect of ALS/FTD biology: TDP-43 SUMOylation. Applicant will use a combination of biochemical, histological, behavioural, and multi-omics approaches to tackle cutting-edge questions in this field.
Qualifications:	Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Neurosciences or a related field, demonstrating expertise and productivity in their respective area. Proficiency in one or multiple of the following areas is necessary: primary cell culture, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, confocal microscopy, animal handling and behaviour, surgical approaches, and data analysis. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, possess creative problem-solving skills, and foster collaboration. Excellent communication skills and the capacity to effectively collaborate within a team are essential.
Location and Environment:	The Rousseaux lab is located at the uOttawa Brain and Mind Research Institute in Ottawa, Canada. The lab was recently built and houses all space and required infrastructure for applicant to thrive academically. The lab fosters and environment of academic collaboration, scientific rigor, and inquisitive thinking; all in efforts of promoting intellectual development and independent growth. Project description:	Full/Part-Time Junior Technician position to perform animal testing within the Behavioral and Physiology Core in Roger Guindon Hall at the University of Ottawa, with the possibility of transitioning into a full-time position. The Behavior and Physiology Core is a state-of-the-art facility equipped to serve the research community at the University of Ottawa, its affiliated Research Institutes, and external users through contracts. The Core provides a time-efficient and cost-effective service for the design, execution, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data resulting from use of the Core's facilities. The equipment enables a full battery of assays relevant to learning and memory, social behavior, sensory gating, motor function, and mood disorders. In addition, the core offers equipment to perform in vivo optogenetics, small animal telemetry, and non-invasive determinations of body composition and metabolic parameters.
Essential Qualifications:	Minimum of Undergraduate Degree in a related field, Technical College Degree in a related field, and/or minimum of 1 year experience in research or working as an animal technician. Practical experience with mice (prefer mice and rats) Experience using computer systems and software, particularly Microsoft Office software Excellent written and oral communication skills (prefer bilingual in French and English)
Salary:	Support is in accordance with University of Ottawa standards. This is a non-unionized contractual research staff position (35hr/week, with flexible hours including some weekend hours) at the level of a Junior Technician NR1.

Description:	A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nongnuj Tanphaichitr, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), to carry out a new research project. In this study, the candidate will develop dosage formulation (delivery system) of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) to be administered intravaginally. We will focus on the cathelicidin AMP, LL-37, and its derived peptide, 17BIPHE2, which possess both spermicidal and microbicidal activity (Kiattiburut et al., Human Reprod 2018, 33:2175-2183). As Multipurpose Prevention Technology (MPT) agents, these AMPs will provide women with empowerment to protect themselves against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. This study is funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and is being carried out in both mouse (in vitro and in vivo) and human (in vitro and ex vivo) systems.
Requirements	Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology/physiology or related biomedical fields with ability to communicate well at both oral and written levels. Knowledge and lab experience in the female reproductive physiology, sperm biology, and hydrogel and/or nanoparticles-based drug delivery to the vagina will give priorities in the recruitment. Self-motivation to progress in his/her career as an independent investigator will also be favorably considered.
Salary:	Salary and benefits will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, following the guideline of OHRI. The term of employment can be up to 4 years. OHRI is one of the foremost Canadian hospital-based research institutes with investigators performing research focusing on answering important health questions and translating their findings into benefits for mankind. A sizable group of researchers in the field of reproductive biology are members of OHRI and also other academic institutes in Ottawa.

Description:	The focus of the project is on the large-scale analysis of multi-omics datasets from human gut microbiome in the context of pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases. The goal of the project is to integrate the results of metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and metaproteomics datasets in a machine learning framework to identify predictive signatures of treatment responses in inflammatory bowel disease patients and classify them accordingly. This research will take place at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa. Ottawa is considered to be one of the best livable cities on the globe.
Basic Requirements:	Basic Requirements (Education/Experience): The ideal candidate should: Have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Machine Learning, Biostatistics, Genomics, or a related field Have experience with omics data analysis from next-generation sequencing technologies Have knowledge and experience with large-scale biological data analysis Have experience in analyzing clinical datasets Have experience in the computational analysis of large biological datasets such as ENCODE and TCGA. Be experienced with machine learning techniques applied to large biological datasets Have proficiency in a programming language such as Java, C, C++, Python, R or Matlab. Be comfortable in a Linux environment. Be a team player Have the ability to work independently Have strong written and verbal communication skills and a good ability to communicate with colleagues in biological sciences Have a strong publication record.Additional assets considered for this position: Have experience in proteomics data analysis Have a working knowledge of annotation databases such as Gene Ontology, GeneCards, Ensembl, and Reactome Have experience working in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team environment
