The School of Epidemiology and Public Health aims to bring together applied health researchers in the areas of epidemiology, clinical sciences, public health, health policy and systems, global health, risk assessment, and implementation science to create an interdisciplinary and inclusive research platform that will be a significant impact on the health of populations and patients.

Melissa Brouwers

Dr. Melissa Brouwers joined the University of Ottawa as the Director of the School of Epidemiology and Public Health in September 2018.  Prior to her appointment at SEPH, Dr. Brouwers was at McMaster University in Hamilton, where she was a Professor in the Departments of Oncology (primary) and Health Research Methodology, Evidence and Impact (affiliate). In addition, she served as the Director of the Program in Evidence-based Care, the guidelines program for Cancer Care Ontario; the Director of the Centre for Evidence-based Implementation at Hamilton Health Sciences; and the Deputy Director of the Escarpment Cancer Research Institute.  

Dr. Brouwers brings to our Faculty a wealth of experience as a health services researcher with special interest in knowledge translation, implementation science and evaluation. The AGREE program of research has played a significant role in her research career ( Furthermore, she has a passion for graduate school education and international research collaborations. Dr. Brouwers obtained her PhD in Social Psychology from Western University and joins the University of Ottawa as a Full Professor.
