The Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences honors transformative advances toward understanding living systems and extending human life.

NSERC has launched the call for nominations for its prizes for which the deadline is in April. These prizes recognize exceptional accomplishments and discoveries in the natural sciences and engineering.
- Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering (≤ $1M)
Awarded annually to an individual who has demonstrated sustained excellence and influence in research for a body of work conducted in Canada that has substantially advanced the fields of natural sciences or engineering.
- Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering
Recognizes outstanding Canadian teams of researchers from different disciplines who came together to engage in research drawing on their combined knowledge and skills, and produced a record of excellent achievements in the natural sciences and engineering in the last six years.
Given to an individual or team whose research, conducted in Canada, has led to a recent outstanding advance in any NSERC-supported field of the natural sciences or engineering; For all career stages.
- Donna Strickland Prize for Societal Impact of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research *new since 2021*
Awarded to an individual or team whose outstanding research, conducted in Canada in the natural sciences and engineering, has led to exceptional benefits for Canadian society, environment and/or economy; Exceptional benefits can be demonstrated in one or more interacting spheres of Canadian life (see website for examples).

uOttawa Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) Excellence Award
The Knowledge Mobilization Excellence Award (KMbE Award) recognizes up to two researchers who have each conducted a research project with high impact involving knowledge users throughout the research and knowledge mobilization (KMb) process.

Ordre des francophones d'Amérique
This distinction recognises the merits of individuals who have dedicated themselves or are dedicating themselves to the maintenance and development of the French language in America, or who have given their support to the growth of French life on the American continent.

Synergy Awards for Innovation (NSERC)
The Synergy Awards for Innovation honour partnerships of strong, complementary and collaborative teams who have generated new knowledge and accelerated the application of research results to create The award recognizes outstanding teams who have combined their expertise and resources to create partnerships resulting in significant impacts. The nominated partnership must be for research in the natural sciences or engineering. It must have also been supported, in whole or in part, by at least one NSERC Research Partnerships grant

Research Canada Leadership in Advocacy Award
Research Canada’s Leadership in Advocacy Award was established to honour outstanding advocates for medical, health and scientific research. The Leadership Award is presented to either an individual or organization who/which has made outstanding efforts in advocating for Canadian health research at the local, provincial and/or national level.
American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellowship (AAAS)
This honour is given to an AAAS member whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished and who has been a continuous member for the four-year period leading up to the year of nomination, may, by virtue of such meritorious contribution be elected a Fellow by the Council.

Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health
This international award recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations for outstanding achievement in improving mental health.
Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research
A suite of awards that aims to provide recognition and publicity for outstanding efforts that enhance the rigor, reliability, robustness, and transparency of research in the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities, and stimulate awareness and activities fostering research quality among scientists, institutions, funders, and politicians.Early career researchers are welcome to apply.
