We have over 400 faculty members who excel at sharing knowledge, building competencies, supervising our residents and maximizing learning opportunities. Their goal is to prepare you to meet the demands and realities of Canada’s primary health care system.

The uOttawa Department of Family Medicine’s learning environment focuses on innovative teaching and quality patient care. Our faculty is diverse and talented. We have in-unit, community, francophone and rural preceptors, and researchers.

Many of our educators are leaders in their fields. They have a wide range of clinical and research interests. Each year, we graduate high-calibre family medicine physicians.

The strength of our program is the direct result of the quality of our people. Our physicians commit their time and energy to developing the future of family medicine in Canada. Through our faculty development initiatives, we support their continuous growth as researchers and educators—ensuring that we continuously strive for excellence in all that we do.

We are committed to fostering a vibrant learning community focused on quality improvement and self-directed, lifelong learning. Through a focused and tailored Faculty Development program, we support our faculty members to continuously improve their teaching, scholarly skills and the learning environment. To do so, we provide opportunities to:

  • Develop new and varied teaching and learning strategies;

  • Collaborate with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine;

  • Obtain recognition for their work; and,

  • Improve and promote scholarship.

Our approach to faculty development yields results: better teaching and better physicians. We promote and apply a vast range of teaching strategies to support learning at every level.
