Our educational development expertise provides support in the selection and offering of best practices that will enable you to reach and engage your learners. As well, our expertise in CPD accreditation and certification requirements can help you achieve certification.

Thank you for your interest in applying for CPD accreditation/certification. Accreditation applies to the process of obtaining Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) hours, while certification applies to the process of obtaining College of Family Physician of Canada (CFPC) Mainpro+ credits.

The University of Ottawa's Office of Continuing Professional Development (OCPD) can review applications for the following credit types:

- MOC Section 1, Group Learning;
- MOC Section 3, Simulation (SIM) and Self-Assessment Programs (SAP); and
- Mainpro+ (1 credit/hour), Group Learning.

The Royal College has granted the OCPD the privilege to review and accredit programs that have been developed or co-developed by physician organizations for credits under Section 1 (group learning) or Section 3 (self-assessment programs or simulation-based assessment activities) of the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program.

The CFPC has awarded the Office of CPD the privilege to grant provincial certification for programs (*live events) that are developed by the University of Ottawa, the Ottawa Hospital and its affiliates. In cases where the OCPD co-develops the program, the CFPC requires that the university offices must have “significant input into the planning, organization, development and implementation and ensure that they meet the criteria for MainPro+ certification."

Note: *For live events taking place outside of Ontario, an application must be submitted to the applicable CFPC chapter. This does not apply to online programs as the CFPC considers the originating location to be Ontario even if content is offered outside of Ontario.

Resources

We process over 100 applications per year from medical organizations, departments and divisions, seeking to have their event accredited and/or certified. We are here to guide new organizations through the process or help more experienced developers in areas where they are trying to improve. There are very specific criteria to which we must adhere when accrediting and certifying an event, but at the same time, our goal is to help.

To get started, we recommend that you review our application form (152.13 KB), our Accreditation Resources and our Policies.

Additional resources can also be found on both the Royal College and the CFPC web sites.

Review of Applications

We process applications within 4-6 weeks upon receipt. Please ensure that all supporting documentation is included so as not to delay the process. We ask that applications be submitted at least 30 calendar days before the event date. Applications submitted within 30 calendar days from the event date will be considered late and a $250 late fee will apply.

Ultimately, we want to optimize your CPD events and the accreditation process. If you have questions about accreditation or the application process, we invite you to contact us for assistance:
