Faculty of Social Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award: Submit nominations today!

The Faculty of Social Sciences' Outstanding Alumni Award is presented annually in recognition of exceptional contributions to the community. The purpose of the award is to recognize Faculty alumni who have enhanced the reputation of their academic unit, of the Faculty and of the University through their outstanding career, public service, community service or academic achievements. The Faculty wishes to demonstrate the pride it has in its alumni all the while providing inspiration to other alumni as well as to current students.

Would you like to nominate someone?

  • Nominations can be submitted by anyone; however, nominating oneself is not allowed.
  • Nominees must be graduates of the Faculty and must have made a remarkable contribution to society.
  • The formal nomination must be sent to the Dean at [email protected], who chairs the Selection Committee.
  • The nomination text must be one to two pages in length.
  • The Award will be presented during an alumni event that will be organized for all Social Sciences alumni.

Faculty of Social Sciences Recognition Award and Outstanding Alumni Award

2023 recognition award: Hubert Marleau

It is with great pleasure that the Faculty of Social Sciences awarded the 2023 Recognition Award to Hubert Marleau. This award is given to a friend of the Faulty who demonstrates leadership by contributing to the reputation of the faculty and has positively impacted the student experience through their actions and dedication.

With over 45 years of experience in the investment and financial community, Mr. Marleau is a leading figure in Canada’s financial community. He was governor of the Montreal and Vancouver stock exchanges, director of the listing committee for the Toronto Stock Exchange and a director with the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. He has also worked at the senior executive level of several large investment banks, notably Nesbitt Thomson Inc., Levesque Beaubien Inc. and Marleau, Lemire Inc. In addition to being a current or past board member of over 50 publicly traded companies, he has raised funds privately and publicly for hundreds of emerging and mature companies, structured numerous mergers and acquisitions, and driven numerous financial deals in Canada. Mr. Marleau graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1967 with an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics.
