Marleau Lecture Series on Economic and Monetary Policy

The Marleau Lecture Series on Economic and Monetary Policy was established in 2019 through the generous contribution of the University of Ottawa's alumnus Mr. Hubert Marleau.

The Lecture Series enables the Department of Economics at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Social Sciences to host, over a five-year period, a Symposium on economic policy featuring a Signature academic lecture by a renowned scholar in the field of economics. The fund also supports three graduate research seminars to be hosted by uOttawa’s Department of Economics on an annual basis. Three academics in the field of economic or monetary policy will be invited to campus to share and discuss their most recent research findings with uOttawa researchers, graduate students and other interested individuals.

With over 45 years of experience in the investment and financial community, Mr. Marleau is a leading figure in Canada’s financial community. He was governor of the Montreal and Vancouver stock exchanges, director of the listing committee for the Toronto Stock Exchange and a director with the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. He has also worked at the senior executive level of several large investment banks, notably Nesbitt Thomson Inc., Levesque Beaubien Inc. and Marleau, Lemire Inc. In addition to being a current or past board member of over 50 publicly traded companies, he has raised funds privately and publicly for hundreds of emerging and mature companies, structured numerous mergers and acquisitions, and driven numerous financial deals in Canada. Mr. Marleau graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1967 with an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics.
