Biography

Jeonghyeon Kim recently earned a Ph.D. in Political Science with a specialization of Human Rights and Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her dissertation, “At the Border of Human Rights: Analyzing State Compliance with International Refugee Protection Norms”, focuses on the role of political leadership and refugee civil society on states’ compliance with international refugee law. The research aims to fill the gaps which exist not only between, but also within, the global North and South by exploring and comparing the situation of Syrian refugees in Canada, Australia, Jordan, and Qatar. Her piece comparing Canada and Australia’s refugee policies won the Steven C. Poe Best Graduate Student Paper Award at the 2018 International Studies Association.
