Biography

Jamie Chai Yun Liew is the Director of the University of Ottawa Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies. She teaches in the areas of immigration, refugee and citizenship law. Her current research focuses on statelessness. Her work has been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada. She has co-authored two immigration law books: Immigration Law by Irwin Law and Immigration and Refugee Law: Cases, Materials and Commentary by Emond Montgomery.

Jamie is also a lawyer that has represented refugee claimants and interveners before the Immigration Refugee Board, Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Her podcast, Migration Conversations, can be found on Apple, Spotify and Google podcasts and features persons who have experienced the immigration system personally and experts from all over the world.

Jamie's debut novel DANDELION is coming out with Arsenal Pulp Press in the spring of 2022. As well, her book, GHOST CITIZENS, a monograph on statelessness and the law in Malaysia, is forthcoming.
