Transcending Technology: Between Freedom and Surveillance

Transcending Technology: Between Freedom and Surveillance showcases works by members of the OAG's Youth Council in collaboration with the eQuality Project. The project aims to bring the voices of young people to bear on the creation of a networked environment where they can play, learn, communicate, and participate equally, free from surveillance and identity-based harassment.

Information Technology's CSAM 2022 Campaign

This year, the Information Technology team at uOttawa will engage the community through a month-long campaign that focuses on simple steps to help you detect and prevent malicious activities online to protect not only your privacy and identity, but also any personal or organizational data that may be stored on your device(s). Throughout the month of October, IT will be sharing practical information and resources to help you protect yourself and the University. Ontario's CSAM Campaign

This year’s campaign theme - “Managing Digital Risks” focuses on the heightened threats faced online within the modern digital age and how these risks can be mitigated.

Weekly focus areas include: Reconnaissance, Social engineering, Cyber hygiene, and Ransomware

How can you participate?

Set in the virtual environment, REGISTER to enter the cyber galaxy to complete weekly tasks/challenges to collect and earn as many cyber galaxy tokens as possible.

The eQuality Project Youth Summit

The equality project youth summit brings together youth ages 15 to 18 with policymakers to have a dialogue about educational technology, privacy, and surveillance.

Introduction to Cybersecurity guest lecturer: Al Nasturzio from Fortinet

Fortinet is one of the largest pure play cybersecurity company, with over 10,000 employees globally and 1,800 in Canada. The University of Ottawa is one of Fortinet's "strategic partners". It has provided over $1M worth of VM and licenses to use in training and in research at the cyber range, and will also provide hardware once the range goes live, allowing hands-on experience for both trainees and grad students. Please join guest lecturer, Al Nasturzio, Director, Training and Education Partners at Fortinet to discuss cybersecurity and cybersafety.

Annual Cyber Security Event: Cyber Safety - Your Behaviour Counts

This event features senior leaders and top cyber security experts who will share their insights on current and emerging threats and demonstrate best behavioural practices, using real-life examples and by testing the knowledge of attendees. Participants will be invited to attend a panel discussion, breakout learning sessions, and interactive activities, where they will receive relevant and practical advice, guidance, as well as learn strategies that they can use to recognize potential threats, vulnerabilities and other risky cyber behaviour.

This event will teach attendees to regularly assess their own online habits and how to protect themselves, others and their organizations.

Introduction to uOttawa-IBM Cyber Range Software

Join the uOttawa-IBM Cyber Range Co-Director, Dr. Guy-Vincent Jourdan and Paul Berthier, Senior Advisor, Cybersecurity (RHEA Group) who will be providing a presentation and live demonstration of the Cyber Range software that will be accessible to the uOttawa community and partners. 

Cybersecurity affects everyone, and the need for certified skilled workers continues to grow. The uOttawa-IBM Cyber Range located in the STEM Complex will provide students and professionals with a space to learn, develop, and address these gaps in their experiences thanks to lessons learned through simulations with real data that can be applied in real life.
