About the laboratory
Learn more about the Ján Veizer Stable Isotope Laboratory.
Paul re-joined the G.G. Hatch Stable Isotope Laboratory in February of 2001 after having spent 12 years as manager of the Laboratory for Stable Isotope Studies (LSIS) at the University of Western Ontario. Paul is an alumnus of the Department of Earth Sciences here at the University of Ottawa. The enthusiasm, energy and planning Paul has brought to the Lab are very much appreciated! He has overseen the transition from old machines and mostly off-line techniques, to a completely new fleet of five continuous flow mass spectrometers.
Senior Lab Technician
Wendy began by working part-time in the lab while completing her B.Sc. (Hon. Geology) here in the Department. She was hired on full-time contract in 1993. She has worked as Senior Technician since 2001.
Her attention to details, patience and organisational skills are much appreciated.
Sr. Lab Technician and Instructor
Kerry began her introduction to Stable Isotopes in 1991 at the University of Saskatchewan Isotope Laboratory. In 1995 she moved to Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. In her role as Lab Manager she assisted Dr. Kurt Kyser to build a State of the Art Isotope Facility (Queen’s Facility for Isotope Research).
After a couple of years managing a commercial lab in Alberta, Kerry joined the G.G. Hatch Stable Isotope Laboratory in April 2016 to take over the IRMS Training Courses that Gilles St-Jean had been teaching for the previous 15 years in collaboration with Isomass and Thermo. Her time is split between teaching the IRMS courses and the Hatch Lab as a Senior Technician.
Kerry has a vast knowledge of the stable isotope field; her easy going approach and smiling personality make her a great collegue.
Patricia joined the team in 1997, coming from GEOTOP in Montreal, with an MSc in Biology/Environmental Science. She divides her time between lab work (in particular freshwater TIC/TOC and DIC/DOC) and the financial administration of the Lab.
Patricia is known for her thoroughness and her common sense approach in dealing with our users. Her smile is also much appreciated.
