The University of Ottawa has surpassed its equity targets in recruiting and nominating Canada Research Chairs (CRC) in the categories of women and visible minorities. As of December 1, 2019, there were 23 women and 11 members of visible minorities, exceeding the projected goals of 18 and eight, respectively.
With respect to persons with disabilities and Indigenous peoples, the University has taken the necessary measures to attract and recruit chairholders from these two groups, with targets set at two and one, respectively. However, in keeping with the Privacy Act, the University cannot disclose numbers of chairholders under five.
“The University of Ottawa is pleased with the great strides made so far, but remains committed, with solid institutional support, to continue to increase representation of chairholders in the four designated groups, as per our CRC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Jacques Frémont.
