Francophone spaces and transformations

This research area focuses on francophone spaces, not only in the geographical and linguistic sense, but also the political, cultural, affective and imaginary.

Research axis

Francophone spaces and transformations explores the construction of francophone spaces, reflecting on their transformation and diversity, on what unites and divides them, and on their relationships with other peoples or cultural or linguistic groups, in minority or majority settings.

We are particularly interested in the following four issues:

  • territorial dynamics that shape francophone communities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally
  • discourse, representation and ideology concerning French and francophone spaces
  • governance structures and policy that guide French and francophone spaces
  • francophones’ practices and experiences in different everyday spaces
