If you are a First Nations or Inuit student, you may be eligible to apply for financial support for Indigenous Canadians.

Post-Secondary Student Support Program

The program aims to improve the socio-economic outcomes for First Nations by supporting First Nations in providing eligible students with funding to access education opportunities at the post-secondary level. This is consistent with the principle of First Nations control of First Nations education.

To be eligible for funding, students must maintain a satisfactory academic standing within an eligible post-secondary institution. These include:

educational institutions affiliated with, or those that deliver post-secondary programs by arrangement with a post-secondary institution
First Nations-designated and directed institutions

Identification is a voluntary and confidential online process by which you identify yourself as an Indigenous student at the University of Ottawa. No proof of ancestry is required.

What should I know about eligibility?

The University of Ottawa has an Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships and Bursaries for First Nations, Inuit and Métis People academic regulation (PDF 211 KB) specifically for students who want to apply for reserved seats in faculties as a part of the admission cycle and/or apply for bursaries and scholarships reserved for first Nations, Métis and Inuit people. There are criteria associated with this academic regulation and students applying to any of the reserve seats, scholarships, or bursaries must provide the information requested in order to be considered for admissions.
